And so it was…

jinn-bday-4So Jinn has finally joined the elite three-oh club, where one becomes instantly more knowledgeable and wiser in the ways of the world, and yet is still youthful enough to be able to wear skinny jeans and play soccer three times a week. I kind of freaked out when Jinn mentioned FIFTY people were rocking up to our house for his party, but I have to say that with a little (read a lot) of help from my Mumsy, mum-in-law and sis-in-law, a wonderful Moroccan themed dinner was laid out and heartily consumed by all our guests. I also may or may not have ordered five cakes from Boucla, my fave cafe of all time…

We wish there were more photos to share of this special evening, but we were both too busy running around like crazy chooks setting tables and chatting to guests to take very many! Hopefully these pictures give you a hint of what a lovely and charming night we all had, enjoying the perfect balmy evening in the presence of many loved ones.

Happy bee-day, bozo!

***Bee-day!***

IMG_3655I had an absolute blast celebrating my birthday in the presence of my beautiful family and friends! I have to mention the gorgeous cake that my mum decorated with fresh flowers for me that actually featured a David Austen rose from my own garden – now that’s a personalised touch. The other absolute highlight was the gift I received from Rani, by eldest sis-in-law (mum to the gorgeous children you see below) who presented me with two illustrations she’d done herself, one of which was a picture of myself! Seriously, what an incredible talent she has, not to mention a heart of gold. All these things really only start to describe what a special day I had and I can honestly say that I felt truly loved.

P.S. Mumsy’s the one in the particularly blingy dress – she’s no shrinking violet. No guesses where I get my love of all things shiny from!

Hello there 2013…and we’re back!

nye-3We spent New Year’s Eve partying on down in Penang! (We were there for the continuation of the wedding bonanza extravaganza that was Jinn’s little sister’s wedding!) As usual the weather was hot and humid but that didn’t stop throngs of locals and tourists flocking to Gurney Drive (one of the main shopping/eating streets) to join in the festivities. As the tunes were pumped out, hijinks and crazy dancing ensued as we celebrated what 2012 had been and welcomed in the brand spanking new 2013, full of promise and big dreams.nye-1 nye-2 nye-4 nye-5 nye-8 nye-7 nye-6

***What I’m wearing – colourful sequin top by Gorman (sold out but try this), deer print shorts by Sretsis (love these), cheap-o yellow sandals from Hong Kong markets (these clogs are cute!), neon pink studs by Kate Spade (here they are in square form), one-of-a-kind custom made purple balloon hat by me.

***What he’s wearing – tribal print t-shirt by Topman.

A very merry Christmas indeed!

water-2Summer finally decided to unleash its glorious but scorching self upon us on Christmas Day, and in full force! Christmas for me is a typically relaxed day spent with all the gorgeous people I love. The morning began with our annual ritual of present opening with my immediate family, and I have to say I scored…big time. Jinn was given the task of buying my present on behalf of the entire family and the poor thing was racking his brains so hard – I wasn’t exactly lacking in anything since only recently coming back from that very fruitful holiday in New York I keep mentioning! He’s also very bad at keeping secrets. So I thought I had it all figured out when I saw a shopping bag from one of my favourite stores (Atlas Divine in Leederville!) peeking out from under a chair when I got home one day. But honestly, nothing prepared me for the boom-bap-pow of those shiny gold Super Duper Strength sunglasses from Karen Walker’s latest Fantastique eyewear range that popped out from that unassuming little package with my name on it. All I can say is – Thank. you. I. Love. Them. And. I. LOVE. YOU. ALL. !.

What followed was a food dream filled with beautiful dishes definitely befitting the occasion (Jason served up five meats at his “little” Christmas barbecue, I certainly got my protein load for the next month or so). Thankfully there was time for a quick dip before Jason’s dinner to help get the digestive system going and burn off a few calories, and of course play with my cousin’s underwater camera! She usually uses it to photograph fish/turtles/rays/sharks when she goes scuba diving but we were more than happy to be the wildlife on this occasion. 🙂

There’s nothing quite like days like these that bring everyone together for the sole purpose of enjoying each other’s company and for sharing gifts, stories, hugs and laughs. I cherish every single moment and find that as I get older (wow, I’m not that geriatric!) they mean more and more to me.sarah presents opening-presents sa-sunnies food-2 garlic-bread food-1 tom rach-nat-hats nat-mouthmrs-cjeff gabs jinnwater water-1 water-3 water-4 jason-graeme-bone jasons-food jason-sab-graeme jason-tea
