Wear to work {02}

sessun-6Wearing – Sessun top (like how cute is this one!?), ASOS trousers (similar), Steve Madden loafers, Kate Spade necklace

It’s okay to wear a splash of colour to work! It’s nice to get out of the habit of wearing all black, particularly now that the sun is shining and the days are getting longer. And once again it’s super-cheap-ASOS-trousers to the rescue! They fit perfectly and fulfil all my workwear criteria (read all about them here), namely style, comfort and mobility all in one. Particularly when paired with these boyish loafers, I’m all set for a day at work with the kiddies!

Wear to work {01}

wear-to-work-01-4-2Wearing – ASOS top and pants, Maison Olga coat (similar and equal in awesomeness), Country Road slippers (similar), belt from Empire (seriously!)

Ah, first world problems…What to wear to work? Having spent most of last year in hospital scrubs and the first half of this year in my Broome uniform (breezy sundresses), I was faced with this dilemma when I returned to Perth to start a job where lazing about in blue pyjamas wasn’t quite gonna cut it.

There are, however, a few considerations one needs to keep in mind when working with children!

  1. Mobility is key. You need to be able to get down on the ground, squat, and/or bend in awkward directions to often accommodate what a kid is doing at times.
  2. You need to accomplish all that whilst still keeping your modesty in check! Flashing is not recommended.
  3. You may be the recipient of projectiles from any number of bodily orifices at any moment, at any time. If you don’t keep your spider sense honed or you carelessly let that nappy slide, you’re gonna get what you deserve. Therefore, the words “dry clean only” and “hand wash only” are not desirable. Also, don’t wear anything too exxy, a spew stain will greatly lessen its value.

Enter ASOS to the rescue with their super stretchy, comfy and flattering peg pants. And to sweeten the deal, they cost little over $30 on sale! Spiced up with a cute belt and staple black flats you can barely tell. Tick, tick, tick. All criteria met.

Do you have any workwear secrets or tips? I’d love to hear about them! This person sure did – I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry!

Pointe Saint-Mathieu

pointe-st-mathieu-15Wearing – Karen Walker t-shirt (on sale at Anthropologie!), ASOS overalls, Madewell sunglasses, Fossil bangle (similar), Donelli shoes (similar)

What he’s wearing – Urban Outfitters jumper and jeans

Our first destination in France was the incredibly picturesque and tiny little village, Pointe Saint-Mathieu, perched right atop part of the spectacular coastline of Brittany. It gets its name from an old abbey in the centre of the village (sixth century according to legend) which was said to have housed the skull of the apostle Matthew until it was lost in the ocean off the point. After the icy cold of Glasgow it was nice to get out into some sunshine. Look! Hi there, Horatio! – Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar-16Wearing – Zara jumper (similar), ASOS overalls, Happy Socks (try these colours), Madewell boots

He’s wearing – J. Crew shirt, TopMan blazer, Urban Outfitters jeans and socks, Pointer shoes via Kaeho, Ona camera bag

First things first, why is no one called Horatio these days? It’s one of those cool old-school names which has sadly fallen from popularity, like Chauncey, Mabel, and Hattie…But I digress! (I may have read a few too many Enid Blyton books as a child…Omg, there’s another amazing name, Enid!)

We hadn’t done a whole lot of touristy stuff in London even though we’d already been there a few days, so we thought we’d take ourselves on our own little whirlwind tour of the sights – Trafalgar Square was our first stop, then Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, and then I joined Jinn (read: got dragged along) on an Arsenal Emirates Stadium for a tour with Charlie George, an ex-player and legend of the soccer team. Do I sound like I know what I’m talking about? It’s because I’ve been brainwashed/educated by Jinn who is an absolute diehard Arsenal fan. Last time we were in London we went to an Arsenal match and I actually thought we were going to die when tempers and overly passionate team-patriotism boiled over at the game. So at least this time round my life wasn’t endangered in the name of soccer!

It was actually a pretty freezing day for an on-foot tour as you might be able to tell from my less than discrete turtleneck. I absolutely love playsuits so I decided to try out their cold weather cousins, overalls! And amongst all the cute spring dresses all the London stores were selling (Spring??? You call this Spring??? Madness…) I found this gorgeous Zara jumper which begged to be worn with my newly acquired overalls. Jinn looked pretty dapper himself I must say!Trafalgar-5 Trafalgar-4Trafalgar-3Trafalgar-23Trafalgar-8Trafalgar-6 Trafalgar-7Trafalgar-13Trafalgar-9Trafalgar-1-5 Trafalgar-10Trafalgar-1-7Trafalgar-12Trafalgar-11Trafalgar-1-6Trafalgar-14Trafalgar-1-2Trafalgar-1-4 Trafalgar-20 Trafalgar-21

My birthday suit – Little Miss Mon Bon

bdaysuit-monbon1A gorgeously colourful ensemble picked out by Monique Ceccato from Little Miss Mon Bon graces our blog this week! Monique is a fellow Perthite who has a keen eye for all things fashionable and quirky, and never shies away from a bright colour or loud print – I love it! In a world full of uniformly black-clad people we need more Mon Bons!

Be sure to check out her blog!

It’s been a lot of fun getting to see inside the brains of some of Perth’s creatives/bloggers/fashionistas each week. I love seeing how different people express themselves, it says so much to me about their inner personalities and it’s altogether fascinating. I hope you’re liking them too!

neuw-denim-13Wearing – Cameo t-shirt, Neuw jeans (similar), ASOS belt, Country Road wedges, Karen Walker Eyewear sunglasses (in tortoise shell), vintage handbag (try this one)

I managed to duck down to Perth for a not-so-quiet weekend over Easter. I welcomed the slightly cooler and much less humid weather, and was so happy that all my neglected pairs of skinny jeans got to come out, come out to play! A different colour for each day!

My mission on Saturday was to procure myself a suitable birthday outfit, and so I hotfooted it down to the Black Beret boutique in Mount Lawley. They carry such an amazing selection of clothing from the hottest Australian designers – it was all I could do to stay focussed! Well, I admit, not only did I successfully pick out a stunning dress for my birthday (can’t wait!) but I did walk away with a little extra something-something-you-know-to-wear-to-that-wedding-in-December-yeah-that’s-right.neuw-denim-10 neuw-denim-9 neuw-denim-5 neuw-denim-6 neuw-denim-4 neuw-denim-11neuw-denim-12neuw-denim-1 neuw-denim-2 neuw-denim-8 neuw-denim-3neuw-denim-7

My birthday suit – Le Fanciulle

my-birthday-suit-le-fanciulleThis week’s fab birthday outfit is brought to you by the ladies from Le Fanciulle, aka Steph and Trish. Here’s a rundown from the lovely duo themselves about their chosen look…

As much as we love our basics, this is our imaginary party get-up so we thought, “you know what? We can wear what we damn well please!”; hence the neon leather, which is our piece de resistance! And with all good parties with us at the helm, there must be tea.  And snacks – always snacks.
xx Steph & Trish 🙂

motifCobalt blue with neon accents – yes please! And snacks? I love snacks! Interestingly, as we all belong to the Perth medico-sphere as well as the blogosphere (me a relative newcomer), we have somewhat orbited each others’ existence and only realised who each other were fairly recently! These sartorially-savvy beauties are steady faces on the Perth fashion scene and have a blog that I’m a huge fan of. To cap it off they have quite a number of achievements under their belts – namely, they were recent nominees for Betts Best Fashion Blogger of the Year 2013 and were also chosen to take part in the Perth Fashion Festival’s 30 Days of Restyle 2012. Phew! Busy bees!
