Go wild

A little while ago, a good friend of mine who I’ve only met in recent years came over for dinner. She looked for some time at one of our wedding photos on the wall and finally said, “Who’s that?”. I hadn’t quite realised just how much we’ve changed over the last (almost) six years! Our faces haven’t changed that dramatically, but we’re certainly more sure of…

Home life

Wearing – Topshop dress (similar), Gorman cardigan, Muji socks, Apartamento magazine via Kate + Abel An orange couch. An orange cardigan. An orange cat armrest. What more do I need this day.

Loss and strangers

The Kimberley moon at dusk Sitting next to someone on an airplane can sometimes be awkward. Do you want to talk. Would you prefer to zone out in your secure bubble contained between your armrests, headset firmly on. You were late 40s, 5 o’clock shadow, and looked decidedly friendly (after a surreptitious side glance). So, I ventured out and tested the waters, as I’m a chronic hater…

The Hidden Sound

Oh what a night. A ticket to an unknown destination, a bunch of clues, an abandoned warehouse. A deer with a flower wreath around its neck. And then Kate Miller Heidke. The Hidden Sound / jarradseng@gmail.com / Instagram @thehiddensound

Take me back

Ah Broome. The warm and sunny town reminds me of a time when life was simple. I was sent here last year for work, initially apprehensive and somewhat discomposed, then six months down the track found myself embraced by the community and way of life, and truly sad to leave. The unhurried pace was curative and a real tonic for a soul that previously searched for…

Kinfolk Gathering – L’Esprit De La Mer

Put plain and simply, Saturday night’s Kinfolk gathering was holistically perfect. Not a single piece was out of place, all expertly and lovingly orchestrated by the inimitably talented Stacey Clark. Hosted in Kidogo Arthouse in Fremantle, the food and wine and conversation flowed freely and effortlessly. What an amazing night – a room full of inspiringly creative people, all so happy to be together, many for…

31

So here I am. No longer clinging to my twenties and barrelling head on into my thirties. Although initially reluctant, I am now a lover and reveller of this decade of life. Sure life brings with it the weight of more responsibilities but slowly and surely through experience and time I am building up a sense of self-knowledge and self-worth that seemed tortuously unattainable before,…

Beloved

Attending a wedding of someone precious to you is always an absolute delight. I particularly love to study the faces of family members, almost living vicariously and feeling lifted by the emotions so clearly written in their expressions. Noted here. A mother’s tender but intensely proud and protective stance, beaming with happiness over her daughter, the bride. The bride, a grown woman but forever…

Henna

The intricate markings adorning the hands and feet of the beaming bride-to-be trace back to a tradition centuries old in its origin. Other ladies belonging to the bride’s family are also decorated as such, but none as complex or beautiful as those that grace the bride. She is the most blessed, the most joyous, the beloved.

Singapore Travel Diary {Happy Chinese New Year!}

Chinese New Year 2014 was an entirely new experience for me! Being born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Chinese New Year never quite features on the list of publicly celebrated holidays! Oh, we do celebrate it with much eating of steamboat and handing out of ang pao (red money packets) but it’s all very much a family affair. Walking around Singapore during the week…
